Red-footed tortoise question?

I bought my red-foot some Repto-Min Soft gel, and its suppose to be like their food, and it has attractants in it, but i haven't seen him touch it! He acts like he doesn't know it's food. Then we got him some Zoo-Med natural Grassland tortoise food, but I haven't fed that to him yet. I got him a cuttlebone but he isn't interested in that either. We tried feeding him peaches but he won't eat those either! All he seems to want to eat is Grated Carrots! I don't know what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP!

Shelb... I keep giving you good information, and you seem to choose to ignore it.

Nothing you listed is natural food for Red-foot Tortoises, and commercial foods are mostly garbage. Besides- it is a forest tortoise, why did you choose the grassland mix?

Many of the sites I have recommended, mostly http://www.redfoots.com and http://www.tortoisetrust.org suggest a fairly simple plan:

About 50% dark leafy greens, especially turnip greens,dandelion greens, cactus pads, endive and escarole lettuces. (Avoid head lettuces and go light on kale and spinach). You can also go with edible flowers and plant leaves.

About 50% or a little less fruit, especially tropical fruits, melon, pineapple, dark plums, cactus pears, and strawberry. Go light on banana. Some apples, pears, peaches, oranges, etc. are fine but not as a main dish.

Some other veggies- mushrooms, green or red peppers, sliced or grated yellow squash, grated carrot (a little is OK), sprouts, tomatos, etc. This should be a small part of the diet.

About once a week, offer a meat meal. Frozen/thawed pinkies are great if you can handle it. Worms, 'Superworms', slow insects, cooked chicken or organ meat, hard-boiled egg, sardines, etc. Avoid fatty meats and mealworms,

A common trick to get tortoises to eat is to use banana, especially if it is chopped up with strawberries and tomatoes- red and juicy!

Red-foots are easy animals to raise, are gorgeous, and live almost forever- IF YOU DO THINGS RIGHT.
